Library Policies (draft)

In accordance with the University of Lynchburg's COVID-19 response plan, the Knight-Capron Library building is closed.  As a result, we are not accepting reserve requests until further notice Please refer to the Library Plan for Remote Services, or email questions to Angela Arthur

Placing items on Course Reserve

  • Items are placed on reserve in the order in which the requests are received.
  • It generally takes us 3 business days to process reserve requests.

When submitting reserve lists:

  • please indicate the category of reserve desired (see below)
  • professor's name
  • course number (ART 101)
  • date materials may be removed from reserve

Reserve Categories for physical items:

  • CLOSED: Use only in the library
    • Time periods:
      • 3 hours
  • OPEN: May be checked out of the library
    • 24 hour
    • 7 days

What May Not Be Placed On Reserved:

  • Material borrowed through Interlibrary Loan
  • Photocopies of individual articles or book chapters. Please use Moodle to make documents accessible to students while respecting fair use as defined in United States Code Section 17 U.S. Code § 107.  If Knight-Capron owns a book that contains a chapter you’d like to place on reserve, library staff will place the book on reserve.

Other Reserve policies:

  • Labels and barcodes will be attached to personal copies of materials placed on reserve.
  • Copyright Law and Fair Use Guidelines must be followed

To ensure that items are placed on reserve as quickly as possible, it is extremely helpful when library materials are pulled from the shelves by the person requesting that they be placed on reserve. This also allows the professor to know immediately if any materials are not available (checked out to another patron, missing, etc.).
