Device Setup

Once you have created your Adobe ID and downloaded appropriate software, you won't have to set it up again each time you want to read an e-book.

Shortcuts to Readers

Blue Fire Reader - Use for Kindle Fire, Android, and iPad/iPhone/iPod 

Adobe Digital Editions - Use for Android devices/Nook, PC 

 

Create an account at Adobe Online. This is where you'll create your Adobe ID.

Android devices

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer (at http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions)
  2. Get an Adobe ID
  3. Find an e-book in LC OneSearch or the library catalog
  4. Click on the "Download This eBook (Offline)" link
  5. Sign in to your EBSCOhost account. The first time you will have to create the account. 
  6. Use your campus network login and password so that you'll remember it later.
  7. Click on the "Checkout & Download" button.
  8. Save the book to Adobe Digital Editions.
  9. Click "Open".
  10. Download the Bluefire Reader app to your Android device.
  11. Connect your portable device to your computer.
  12. Open the Bluefire Reader app.on your device.
  13. The device must also be authorized with your Adobe ID.
  14. On your computer, open the My Digital Editions folder which is located under My Documents.
  15. In another window on your computer open the device.  Open the Bluefire folder.
  16. On your computer, transfer items to the device by clicking on the book title in the My Digital Editions folder,
  17. Drag and drop the title into the Imports folder within the Bluefire folder.
  18. On the device, in the Bluefire app, go to the Info page, and click on import. The message "Adding books to your library" should display.
  19. Open your eBook in Bluefire Reader to begin reading. Finally!

 

Kindle Fire

  1. Create an Adobe Online ID at Adobe.com.
  2. On your Kindle Fire, tap the 'Settings' icon at the top of the screen. Tap 'More'.
  3. Scroll down to the Device tab, set 'Allow installation of Applications' to ON, tap OK when you see the Warning prompt.
  4. Download and install the Bluefire Reader app.
  5. Open the Bluefire Reader.
  6. In the menu at the bottom of the screen tap 'Info'.
  7. Enter your Adobe ID and password to authorize the Bluefire Reader.
  8. From your device, find an eBook in the library catalog or LC OneSearch 
  9. Click on the "Download This eBook (Offline)" link.
  10. Then click on "Checkout & Download" button.
  11. Sign in to your EBSCOhost account.
  12. If you don't have an account you can create one now.  Use your LC login and password.
  13. Then select how many days, 1-7, you want to check out the book.
  14. The book will automatically begin downloading into the Bluefire Reader app. This may take a few minutes.

iPads, iPhones, iPods

  1. Get an Adobe ID
  2. Download the Bluefire Reader app to your iPad/iPhone.
  3. Authorize Bluefire by entering the Adobe Online ID you created in step 1
  4. Find an e-book in the collection (through LC OneSearch) or the library catalog that you want to download.
  5. Click on the "Download This eBook (Offline)" link.
  6. You will be asked to sign in to your EBSCOhost account.
  7. If you don't have an account you can create one now. Use your LC login and password. 
  8. Select how many days, 1-7, you want to check out the book
  9. Click "Checkout & Download"
  10. Click on the 'Open in "Bluefire" button'. This will automatically begin downloading the eBook into the Bluefire Reader app. This may take a few minutes.

Nook

  • Download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer (at http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions).
  • Authorize with your Adobe ID (if you do not have an Adobe ID you can create one at this point).
  • When looking at an e-book in LC OneSearch or the library catalog, click on the "Download This eBook (Offline)" link.
  • You will be asked to sign in to your EBSCOhost account. (If you don't have an account, please create one now). Select the PDF option. Then select how many days, 1-7, you want to check out the book and click on the "Checkout & Download" button.
  • You should then be prompted to save the book. When the download is complete click "Open". The book should open in Adobe Digital Editions. Right click on the book and select "Show File in Explorer." Right click on the file and select "Copy."
  • Connect your Nook to the computer through its USB cable. Open the device to view files. Double click on "Internal Storage." Select the "Digital Editions" folder. Paste the file.
  • On your Nook, open the library. The file should appear. Open the file. You may be prompted to sign in with your Adobe ID.
