Circulation Policy

Circulation Policies for Guest Users

Guest users include:

  • University of Lynchburg Alumni 
  • Retired University of Lynchburg Faculty & Staff 
  • VIVA Cooperative Borrowers
  • Community Borrowers 
  • LIFE@Lynchburg participants
  • Summer Term Governor's School Students

Guest users may:

  • Check out books and DVDs
  • Check out up to 10 items at a time
  • Use the Library’s guest wifi on their own devices (laptop, tablet, or smartphone)

How to register:

  • University of Lynchburg Alumni: Bring a current, valid photo ID to the Circulation Desk, along with your University or Lynchburg/Lynchburg College ID card (if you have one).
  • Retired University of Lynchburg Faculty & Staff: Bring a current, valid photo ID to the Circulation Desk, along with your University or Lynchburg/Lynchburg College ID card (if you have one).
  • VIVA Cooperative Borrowers: Bring your current college/university ID card to the Circulation Desk.  You will need to verify your current affiliation with your home institution as a part of the application process. 
  • Community Borrowers:  Bring a current, valid photo ID.  Community borrowers must be 18 years of age or older.
  • LIFE@Lynchburg participants: Bring your LIFE@Lynchburg ID and a current, valid photo ID to the Circulation Desk.
  • Summer Term Governor's School Students: Please ask at the Circulation Desk.
  • All guests must apply in person at the Library Circulation Desk, and bring a current, valid photo ID.
  • Guests may apply during regular operating hours, except after 10pm, when Library access is restricted to current University students, faculty, and staff with a valid University of Lynchburg identification card.
  • Library staff reserve the right to deny guest borrower applications, or revoke guest borrowing privileges, for any reason at any time.

Borrowing information:

  • Alumni, Retired Faculty/Staff, Community Borrowers, and LIFE@Lynchburg participant accounts expire one year from the date of registration, but may be renewed.
  • VIVA Cooperative Borrower accounts expire at the end of the University of Lynchburg academic term in which they are registered.
  • Summer Term Governor’s School Student accounts expire at the end of each Governor’s School term.
  • Guest borrowers must present a valid ID to check out items at the Circulation Desk.
  • Guest borrowers are limited to checking out book and DVDs, and may not check out laptops, adapters, equipment, magazines/journals, reference books, board games, reserves, study carrels, archival material, reference books, microforms, or items of any other type.
  • Guest borrowers are not eligible for interlibrary loan (ILL) services.
  • The Library does not provide dedicated guest-use computers, guest printing, or guest photocopying privileges.
  • While on campus, guests may use the University's guest wifi on their own devices (laptop, tablet, or smartphone).  Access to many electronic resources is restricted to current University of Lynchburg students, faculty, and staff.
  • Theft or mutilation of library materials, or any attempt to circumvent the security system, will result in replacement charges and immediate loss of borrowing privileges.

Renewals

  • Items may be renewed if they are not on hold for other users. Please email circadmin@lynchburg.edu, call 434.544.8430, or visit the Circulation Desk to request renewals.

Lost and Damaged Items

  • Report any items known to be lost or damaged to the Circulation Desk as soon as possible.
  • Library items are billed once they are 30 days overdue. The user's account will be charged the replacement cost for the item plus a $25.00 non-refundable processing charge per item.
  • Users will be charged for materials which are returned damaged.  If an item is repairable, the user will be charged for the cost of the repairs only. If an item is beyond repair, the replacement cost will be charged. All materials remain the property of the Library.
