Circulation Policy

Circulation Policies for Non-Affiliated Users

General Information

  • Non-Affiliated Users include:
    • University of Lynchburg Alumni (more info here)
    • Retired University of Lynchburg Faculty & Staff (more info here)
    • VIVA Cooperative Borrowers (more info here)
    • Community Borrowers (more info here)
    • Governor's School Students
    • LIFE@Lynchburg participants
  • Items may be checked out at the Circulation Desk on the first floor.
  • A valid ID is required for checkout.
  • Non-affiliated users are limited to five (5) total checkouts at any given time.
  • Non-affiliated users may not check out laptops, adapters, equipment, magazines/journals, reference books, board games, reserves, or study carrels.
  • Non-affiliated users are not eligible for interlibrary loan services.

Loan Periods for Non-Affiliated Users:

Renewals

  • Items may be renewed if they are not on hold for other users. Please visit the Circulation Desk or call 434.544.8430 to request renewals.

Lost and Damaged Items

  • Report any items known to be lost or damaged to the Circulation Desk as soon as possible.
  • Library items are billed once they are 30 days overdue. The user's account will be charged the replacement cost for the item plus a $25.00 non-refundable processing charge per item.
  • Users will be charged for materials which are returned damaged.  If an item is repairable, the user will be charged for the cost of the repairs only. If an item is beyond repair, the replacement cost will be charged. All materials remain the property of the Library.

Security System

All library materials are protected by the Checkpoint Security System.  An alarm will sound if materials are removed from the Library without first being checked out. The theft or mutilation of library materials, as well as any attempt to circumvent the security system, will result in replacement charges and loss of borrowing privileges.

Non-circulating Materials

Materials in the following collections are non-circulating and must be used in the library:

  • Archives
  • Microforms
  • Special Collections
