Library Mission, Vision and Introduction

Mission

The Library supports learning by providing information services to meet the needs of students and faculty.

Vision

The library will serve as a conduit to discovery and self-education by:

  • focusing on users' needs
  • enabling users to become information literate
  • acquiring and organizing information resources
  • acting as a guide to information utilizing traditional formats and innovative technology.

Introduction

Welcome to the Library. The Library is not simply a place or building nor is it only a collection of resources. Rather, the Library, as a program of services (including on-site and remote collections), possesses a mission of supporting learning by providing information services to meet the needs of students and faculty.

The core of our program consists of instructional services that library staff provide both formally and informally, to you and your students in individual or group settings. As a result, your students will develop information literacy skills that enable them to make effective and efficient use of information resources both for curricular purposes and for their personal lives and professional careers. The library's program supports you directly by enabling you to meet your curricular and research needs for services and resources and by enabling you to hold reasonable expectations of your students.

A growing array of electronic information resources, many of which you can access from your office or home, complements the on-site print collection. Thus, a "collection" comparable to that found at much larger colleges is available to you. Interlibrary loan and document delivery services are available for resources available only beyond our own collection. We also make available electronic current awareness services for your use.

Integrating the library program into the curriculum as well as the college's intellectual life involves a partnership between you and the library. We have developed a liaison program to facilitate the attainment of this goal, and a list of liaison librarians appears elsewhere in this guide.

As significant as the library's resources are, our greatest resource is our staff who are committed to going the extra mile to provide you and your students with professional, reliable, and user-friendly service. Our goal is to not only meet but also exceed your expectations.
